Sketchy Walks in Nature

  • Mindful Sketching: Sketchy Walks in Nature (virtually during current situation)

This is where I discovered my very own ‘Superpower’-since childhood I loved anything creative; drawing using crayons and painting to creating  a spectacular playhouse den’ and building ornate sandcastles always making, creating, even baking!  Constant’ people watching; sketching what I saw, and noting down how I felt in little sketchbooks. Only recently discovering the term ‘Biophilia’ a hypothesis that as human beings we possess an innate emotional affiliation to nature –  and it’s genetic imprint on us all. My childhood adventures spent walking on the beach; looking for sea shells, pebbles, sea glass to seaweed. All day hikes in the the woods, to spot animals seeking out the ‘first’ snowdrops or bluebells to using stepping stones to get across the stream. It makes sense to me now – these experiences made me HAPPY! This is how ‘Mindful Sketching’ has evolved; a powerful combination of  ‘focusing on your breath, using it as an anchor and making that deep connection with the world around you – it’s like seeing something really clearly for the very first time’!
