When we are tense, anxious or overwhelmed our minds get muddled. This is because our fight or flight mode is switched on and our emergency ‘auto-pilot’ kicks in just to get us through the day! Our body is flooded with adrenalin, cortisol production and our heart rate increases to get more blood pumping to our muscles!

Many other functions get put on the back-burner during this time including our perception and memory. That’s why we find it difficult to think clearly, rationally and remember simple things.

From experience I found keeping a record of what ‘worked’ for me was super helpful in such times; having a go-to personalised booklet proved to be a really positive, proactive exercise. A tried and tested list, ready for when you need it most to help you ‘self-soothe’.
